Peixaria Sara's
Stalls: 174-175
Sara Araújo is 51 years old, but has been in Bolhão for almost 40 years. The long history of love and work for the market began when Sara and her mother, Maria Joaquina — who worked in a warehouse selling fish and shellfish in Matosinhos — were asked by a customer who owned a fishmonger if they wanted to take over the business. At that time, little Sara was only 10 years old, but she was so excited about going to Bolhão that she soon convinced her mother to take over the stall at the market. From the age of 17, the stall was left to Sara alone, allowing her mother to dedicate herself to other professional tasks in the family.
Since then, almost four decades have passed, and today, Sara, who is here to stay, has the help of her daughter, representing the 3rd generation of the family in the business.
There are few words about Bolhão that express Sara's feelings, however the saleswoman confesses that it is "her dear home", where "she sees her friends", and that she will stay here, if possible, for many years to come.
