Peixaria Zaida Silva
Stall: 176
When Zaida was still a little child, her parents had a grocery stall and a tavern in Mercado do Bolhão. As there were often altercations between the two, the mother went to work at the chicken slaughterhouse, which existed in the market, and the father stayed at the grocery store. Little Zaida would take turns helping her parents. Sometimes she would help one, other times she would help the other, until on her 18th birthday, Zaida took over the grocery stall/tavern, where — according to her — she would live very happy times, cooking and serving snacks to those who showed up there. Years later, Zaida's parents decided to help her brother, and, for that, they handed the stall that Zaida was in charge of, over to her brother, while she was helped by her mother to open a fishmonger, which she maintains until the present.
Zaida has been in the market for 59 years and tells us that she loves what she does: whether it's preparing "little fillets" or preparing "little treats" for her customers, Zaida does it with pride, while always smiling, as she's "one of Bolhão's daughters."
